Scott Humpal - Physical Therapist, Founder and President
Scott Humpal, PT is a PT and the owner of Humpal Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers. He grew up in Butte, Nebraska. He participated in football, basketball, wrestling, track and baseball. He attended the Univ. of Nebraska, studying science, coaching, and athletic training. Then he transferred to the Univ. of Nebraska Medical Center where he graduated with a degree in PT in 1988. After graduation, Scott worked at a rural hospital in South Dakota, then moved to CC. His first job in So. TX was at Riverside Hospital in Calallen. The time spent at the hospital was personally gratifying, but it did not offer enough outpatient orthopedic care to satisfy his professional goals. He then worked 6 months for local PT Monica Green, and then decided to open his own practice. Unable to secure a business loan, $20,000 was scraped together from family members, and the first Humpal clinic was opened in Sinton, Texas in August of 1989. He now has 6 locations in the Coastal Bend. Scott has built his practice and reputation on providing progressive and quality care for all patients.
Yvonne A. Ramirez - Physical Therapist
Yvonne A. Ramirez, P.T. is the Director of the CC location. She was born and raised in CC, Texas. She attended Mary Carroll High School and graduated in 1998. She then attended Texas A&M Univ.-CC where she majored in Biology. As she attended college, Yvonne worked as a technician at Humpal Physical Therapy, where she gained valuable experience and realized that this was going to be her future profession. Yvonne transferred to Texas Tech Univ. Health Sciences Center where she received her Master’s Degree in PT in 2004. Yvonne later moved to Houston, Texas where she practiced physical therapy for over 4 years. She became Neuro-IFRAH certified and specialized in the treatment of patients with stoke and head injuries. Yvonne returned to CC in November of 2008 and returned to her Humpal family. Yvonne has found a great interest in working in the orthopedic sports medicine field and would now like to eventually become certified in manual therapy. Yvonne is currently certified in Objective Functional Capacity Evaluations and Employment Testing Protocols.
Maria “Vera” Chavez - Physical Therapist DPT
Maria “Vera” Chavez, PT, DPT, (also known as Vera) has worked for Humpal Physical Therapy for over nine years. Vera graduated from UTHSCSA in 2009 with a Doctorate of physical therapy. She is currently a director and physical therapist at the Portland location. She enjoys working with all patients and has a desire to help patients meet their goals. Vera finds the spine interesting and enjoys correcting mechanical dysfunctions and improving movement. Vera loves spending time with her family. She is originally from Sinton and loves being in the area and treating locally.
Phillip J. Cronkhite, Jr. - Physical Therapist
Phillip J. Cronkhite, Jr., PT. is the Co-Director of our Alice Clinic. He is a native of New York. Born and raised in upstate New York, he attended HS in South Glens Falls. Upon graduating high school, he attended Adirondack Community College and graduated with a liberal arts degree and transferred to Daemen College in Amherst, NY, a suburb of Buffalo. At Daemen, he studied PT and graduated with a BS in PT in 2002. After graduation, he moved to Del Rio, TX where he practiced PT both with outpatients as well as with inpatients for over 3 years. He has been a Clinical Director at our Rockport facility where he helped to establish it as a practice, then as a staff therapist as our Deepwood facility to be closer to family, Phillip has over 18 years of experience in the field of PT with special interests in orthopedic, sports medicine and wound care. Phillip has been studying with the international academy of orthopedic medicine and looks forward to becoming certified in multiple areas in the future.
Mandy Hesseltine - Physical Therapist
Mandy Hesseltine, PT, is a Co-Director of the Calallen Clinic. She was born and raised in Sinton, TX., and graduated from Sinton HS in 2001. She then played one year of basketball at Jacksonville Junior College. Mandy graduated from Angelo State University with a Masters in PT in 2006. She has worked in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine since graduating college and briefly worked in the acute care setting. Mandy joined the Humpal Team in 2008 and has worked in the Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass and Portland Clinics. Mandy is certified in McKenzie A & B of the low back and cervical neck. She is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP) and a Certified Weight Trainer (C.W.T.). She has taken various continuing education courses, such as, McConnell taping of the low back, knee, and shoulder, and myofascial release techniques to expand her knowledge in the field of Physical Therapy. Mandy enjoys working out, spending time with family, and loves the outdoors.
Cassie Kuykendall - Physical Therapist
Cassie Kuykendall, PT MPT, has been on the Humpal Physical Therapy team for one year now and is currently the clinic director and physical therapist at the Rockport location. She attended both undergraduate and graduate school at Angelo State University on a full academic scholarship earning her Master in Physical Therapy degree in 2003 graduating with top honors in her class in the clinical sciences and internships. Cassie values lifelong learning and has been a clinical instructor eight times in her career along with being a certified clinical instructor through the APTA. She is interested in continuing her education to become a geriatric specialist as well as getting her PhD. Cassie values good communication and daily quality interaction with her patients. She brings these qualities to Humpal daily when going above and beyond to make sure her patients are informed about their various disease processes and physical conditions. She takes time to provide a detailed evaluation to formulate an appropriate treatment plan looking at past medical history, medication interactions on the patient's physical and emotional status, and current needs. Cassie is known to bring models and resources to educate patients because better understanding leads to increased compliance which leads to better outcomes. Cassie also re-assesses her patients frequently as needed to be able to progress treatment plans appropriately. This process also allows her to provide excellent communication with referral sources for a team approach to rehabilitation. When she is not in the clinic, Cassie has a passion for sports photography following the Rockport-Fulton athletic program. She also loves time with her 4 children on adventures like fishing, museums, finding good food, and traveling to explore this big beautiful world.
Kristi Chapman - Physical Therapist
Kristi Chapman, P.T is a Physical Therapist at the Corpus Christi Clinic, and has served previously as the Director of our Rockport and Portland clinics. She moved to CC in 1996 and attended Carroll High School. She graduated from Carroll in 2000, and then attended Texas A&M CC where she earned a bachelors degree in Exercise Science in 2004. She then went on to attend PT School at Angelo State Univ. in which she graduated with a Masters Degree in PT in December 2006. She moved back to So. TX and joined the Humpal Team in January of 2007. She loves the field of physical therapy and would someday like to pursue her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and become certified in manual therapy. She continues to pursue educational opportunities that will enhance her skills in specialized techniques that will promote healing in patients and aid in effective rehabilitation.
Elizabeth Wilson - Physical Therapist
Elizabeth Wilson, PT, DPT, is the Director of the Aransas Pass Clinic. She was born and raised in Ingleside, TX and graduated from Ingleside HS. She attended Texas A&M Univ – CC where she studied Biomedical Sciences. She then attended the Univ of TX Health Science Center San Antonio, receiving her Doctor of PT degree in 2013. After graduating, Elizabeth returned back home to be close to family and work at Humpal PT, Elizabeth enjoys music, sports, and spending time with family. She also has great interest in the orthopedic and sports medicine fields of physical therapy. During one of her many volunteer opportunities she was able to be an intern athletic trainer with the CC IceRays in their final season in the Central Hockey League. Elizabeth has taken continuing education courses including Graston Technique and Vestibular rehab techniques.
Bryan Alaniz - Physical Therapist, DPT
Bryan Alaniz, PT, DPT is a staff physical therapist at the Corpus Christi location. Bryan worked as a PT technician at Humpal prior to PT school. He grew up in Kenedy, TX and graduated from Texas A&M University – CC with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences in 2014. He then attended University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, graduating with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2018. He is very interested in orthopedic and manual physical therapy and plans on pursing a fellowship in the near future. In his spare time, Bryan enjoys working out, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Samuel Gibson - Physical Therapist, DPT
Samuel Gibson, DPT, is a staff physical therapist at the Corpus Christi Clinic He was raised on a dairy farm in Russellville, AR. and graduated from Russellville HS in 1985. He attended College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR. on a cross country athletic scholarship. Sam transferred to the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and graduated with a degree in PT in 1990. He moved to north TX. in 1991 and has worked in various practice settings throughout his career including outpatient orthopedic clinics, hospitals, wound care and home health. He returned to the classroom in 2008 and graduated in 2010 from Hardin- Simmons University in Abilene with a Doctorate of PT. Sam, his wife, and their standard poodle, Sammy, moved to CC in August 2019 to live close to the beach. He enjoys horticulture, scuba diving, leather and woodworking projects. Sam and his wife have three adult children and enjoy being empty nesters.
Garrett “Gary” Gellerman - Physical Therapist, DPT, ACSM EP-C
Garrett “Gary” Gellerman PT, DPT, ACSM EP-C is a staff Physical Therapist at the Corpus Christi Clinic. He grew up in Valley Springs, California playing various sports in high school including football, wrestling and track/field where he earned all area honors as a middle linebacker and a wrestler. Gary went on to play college football at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND graduating with a B.S. in exercise science with a minor in business admin. After becoming certified as an exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine, Gary pursued his doctorate in Physical Therapy. He has a passion for sports medicine/ rehabilitation as well as addressing chronic pain through neurodynamics. In his spare time Gary enjoys music, learning to play songs on acoustic guitar. Gary also enjoys exercise, exploring new places, and spending time with family and friends.
Kaycee McElwee - Physical Therapist, DPT
Kaycee McElwee, DPT, is the Director of the Calallen Clinic. She attended Texas A&MCC where she earned her bachelors in biology in 2014. She then attended University of St. Augustine in Austin, TX and earned her doctorate of physical therapy in 2017. Since graduating PT school, Kaycee has gotten experience working with pediatrics, general orthopedics, sport specific athletes, and neurological patients. She continues to further her education in the PT field by continuing to take courses to specialize in a variety of approaches to best suit her patient demographics and keep up with the progressing field. In her spare time, Kaycee enjoys hunting, fishing, going to the beach, working out, sports, and spending time with her dogs and friends.
Brian Tajchman - PTA
Brian Tajchman, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant and Co-Director of the Alice Clinic. He graduated from Del Mar College in 2006 with his degree in Applied Science. He was on Del mar’s Deans list, the National Deans List and placed in the National Honor Society. He joined Humpal PT in September 2007, and is a part of the management team at the Alice location. His hobbies are playing the acoustic guitar, photography, surfing, wood working, and automotive repair/fabrication. Brian volunteers for the Special Olympics. He would like to continue his education and become a PT.
Brandi Spears - PTA
Brandi Spears, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant and currently in the Corpus Christi Clinic. Brandi graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1999. Brandi married her high school sweetheart soon after and moved to Oregon where her husband was stationed as a member of the USCG. While in Oregon, Brandi got her first job as a physical therapy technician. When Brandi and her family moved back to the Corpus Christi area, Brandi went to Humpal to pursue the career she loved. Brandi started out as a technician and eventually furthered her education by attending Del Mar College and becoming a PTA in 2012. Brandi enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Diana Valdez - PTA
Diana Valdez, PTA, is a Physical Therapist Assistant in the Corpus Christi Clinic. She was born and raised in CC, TX, and graduated from Ray HS. She then graduated from Del Mar College receiving Associates in Applied Science and became a PTA in 2000. Before becoming a PTA , she worked at HPT as a technician for four years. She has worked in various settings such as Long Term Acute Care, Home Health, CORF, and Outpatient Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. She attended various continuing education courses, such as Kinesio Taping and Graston Technique. She enjoys spending time with family, camping, fishing, and hunting. She also loves watching her teenage boys play Select Baseball and High School Baseball.
Jacqueline Hernandez - PTA
Jacqueline Hernandez, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant of the Corpus Christi location. She was born and raised in Pearsall, Texas where she attended high school and graduated in 2010. She then attended Texas A&M- Corpus Christi to obtain her Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology in 2015. Shortly after she went back to school to become a licensed PTA while also working as a technician for Humpal Physical Therapy and graduated May 2018
Jesse Cervantes - PTA
Jesse Cervantes, PTA, is a staff Physical Therapist Assistant at the Portland location. He is originally from Brownsville, TX and graduated from Gladys Porter High School in 2003. He then moved to Corpus Christi and graduated from Del Mar College with his Physical Therapist Assistant degree in 2017. Jesse was a technician for 5 years at multiple Humpal Physical Therapy locations prior to becoming a PTA. Jesse is also fluent in Spanish, which he utilizes to serve the Spanish speaking population. In his free time, Jesse enjoys running, cycling, and spending time with family.
Tiffany Truxaw - PTA
Tiffany Truxaw, PTA, is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Calallen location. Tiffany values giving patients the best care to help in their recovery. She also loves getting to know our patients and hearing their stories. Outside of being a PTA at Humpal Physical Therapy, she is a wife and mother and enjoys spending time with them in her free time.
Ella Lazarte - PTA
Ella Lazarte, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant and has been at the Calallen Clinic since 2019. Ella was raised in Corpus Christi and graduated from the first class of Collegiate High School in 2010. From Del Mar College, she received her AA in Liberal Arts, and AS in Physical Therapist Assistant. She loves working with the geriatric population most and hopes to specialize in that area as she continues her journey as a PTA. Ella loves to read, travel, and try exotic food.
Eric Breen - PTA
Eric Breen PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Calallen Clinic. He began his academic pursuit by earning a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology in Rochester, New York. This background along with a lifelong passion for athletics and helping others lead him to return to school to study physical therapy. In 2016 Eric graduated with his PTA degree from Kapiolani College in Hawaii where he worked for two years before moving to Corpus Christi to start a new chapter of life. In his free time Eric enjoys playing tennis and trying new foods from different parts of the world.
Kevin Gorman - PTA
Kevin Gorman PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Calallen Clinic. Kevin was born in Houston, TX. He was raised in Corpus Christi, TX and attended Calallen High school. Kevin attended Del Mar college where he studied physical therapy and graduated with an associates in applied sciences - physical therapist assistant. Kevin’s dream is to one day become a doctor of physical therapy. He enjoys jogging, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.
Jessica Chavez - PTA
Jessica Chavez, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Aransas Pass Clinic. Jessica was born and raised in Corpus Christi and graduated from Ray High School. After high school, Jessica went to Texas State University in San Marcos and eventually moved back to CC. Jessica worked at Humpal Physical Therapy as a technician before being accepted into the PTA program at Del Mar College. Jessica graduated from Del Mar in 2007 with honors. During her career, Jessica has worked in Long Term Acute Care, Outpatient, and Skilled Nursing facilities; and held various management positions including Director of Rehab and Corporate Mentor. Jessica also was adjunct faculty at Del Mar for the PTA program and served on the advisory committee for admissions. Jessica loves the beach and spending time with her family.
Tyler Hipke - PTA
Tyler Hipke, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Corpus Christi Clinic. He was born and raised in O’Neill, NE where he attended high school and graduated in 2013. He then attended welding school at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, NE where he received an associates degree in Welding Technology in 2015. Shortly after, he began his schooling for PTA at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA where he obtained his degree in 2017. He began his career in 2018 as a PTA at an outpatient clinic in Denver, CO, followed by a position at Humpal Physical Therapy starting in early 2019. He is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing and also spends his free time doing carpentry and metal work. His passion for helping people drives his love for therapy and evidence based practice.
Tanner Maxwell - PTA
Tanner Maxwell PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Corpus Christ Clinic. Tanner grew up in Sutherland Springs, Texas and graduated from Stockdale High School in 2013. He then moved to Corpus Christi and took his prerequisite classes at both Del Mar and TAMUCC. In 2017 he moved to Odessa, TX for his PTA program and graduated in May of 2019.
Mickel’ Yust - PTA
Mickel’ Yust, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Portland Clinic. She was born and raised in Minnesota where she participated in soccer, gymnastics, and track in her high school years. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Intercultural Studies from Northwestern University in St. Paul, MN and worked for a number of years in the Twin Cities with underserved populations including adults with developmental disabilities; families determined to be at risk for child abuse and neglect; and with dementia care patients of a skilled nursing facility. She moved to Hawaii for 6 years and during that time completed her PTA degree at Kapiolani College in Honolulu. Mickel’ is a certified yoga instructor and is passionate about health and movement.
Jessica Lopez - PTA
Jessica Lopez, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Alice Clinic, and joined Humpal PT in January 2019. She was born in Kingsville, TX, and raised in Alice, TX. She graduated from Del Mar College in 2010 with her degree a physical therapist assistant degree in Applied Science. She began working in the home health setting with both adult and pediatric patients for over 8 years. She looks forward to continuing her career with Humpal.
Tamara Huerta - PTA
Tamara Huerta, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Alice Clinic. She became a PTA in 2012 after starting as a tech several years before. Since becoming a PTA she has worked in therapy settings such as Acute Care, Wound Care, Outpatient, Home Health and SNFs. Her favorite past time is entertaining her two granddaughters.
