Scott Humpal, PT is the owner of Humpal Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers. He grew up in Butte, Nebraska. He participated in football, basketball, wrestling, track and baseball. He attended the Univ. of Nebraska, studying science, coaching, and athletic training. Then he transferred to the Univ. of Nebraska Medical Center where he graduated with a degree in PT in 1988. After graduation, Scott worked at a rural hospital in South Dakota, then moved to CC. His first job in So. TX was at Riverside Hospital in Calallen, then for a local outpatient clinic for 6 months, and then he decided to open his own practice. Unable to secure a business loan, $20,000 was scraped together from family members, and the first Humpal clinic was opened in Sinton, Texas in August of 1989. He now has 6 locations in the Coastal Bend. Scott has built his practice and reputation on providing progressive and quality care for all patients.
Yvonne A. Ramirez, P.T. is the Director of the CC location. She was born and raised in CC, Texas. She attended Mary Carroll High School and graduated in 1998. She then attended Texas A&M Univ.-CC where she majored in Biology. As she attended college, Yvonne worked as a technician at Humpal Physical Therapy, where she gained valuable experience and realized that this was going to be her future profession. Yvonne transferred to Texas Tech Univ. Health Sciences Center where she received her Master’s Degree in PT in 2004. Yvonne later moved to Houston, Texas where she practiced physical therapy for over 4 years. She became Neuro-IFRAH certified and specialized in the treatment of patients with stoke and head injuries. Yvonne returned to CC in November of 2008 and returned to her Humpal family. Yvonne has found a great interest in working in the orthopedic sports medicine field and would now like to eventually become certified in manual therapy. Yvonne is currently certified in Objective Functional Capacity Evaluations and Employment Testing Protocols.
Maria “Vera” Chavez, PT, DPT, is the Director at Humpal Physical Therapy at the Portland location. She is a graduate of The Univ of TX Health Science Center’s Doctor of PT program. She graduated top of her class with a GPA of 4.0 and was awarded the Student Excellence Award. Immediately after graduation, she was given a directorship and lead therapist position in San Antonio at an outpatient clinic and hospital that specialized in the spine. She returned to CC community to be closer to family and to return to her roots. She is a native to Sinton, Tx where she was recognized for her athletic abilities and given a scholarship to join Texas A&M Univ Kingsville’s cross country and track & field team. She lettered all four years and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science with the Distinguished Student award before attending graduate school in San Antonio. Vera is currently certified in Industrial Safety and Rehabilitation, Objective Functional Capacity Evaluations, and Employment Testing Protocols. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and doing adventurous activities such as zip lining, snorkeling, and sky diving.
Phillip J. Cronkhite, Jr., PT. is the Director of our Alice location. He is a native of New York. Born and raised in upstate New York, he attended HS in South Glens Falls. Upon graduating high school, he attended Adirondack Community College and graduated with a liberal arts degree and transferred to Daemen College in Amherst, NY, a suburb of Buffalo. At Daemen, he studied PT and graduated with a BS in PT in 2002. After graduation, he moved to Del Rio, TX where he practiced PT both with outpatients as well as with inpatients for over 3 years. He has been a Clinical Director at our Rockport facility where he helped to establish it as a practice, then as a staff therapist as our Deepwood facility to be closer to family, He is now the Director in Alice. Phillip has over 13 years of experience in the field of PT with special interests in orthopedic, sports medicine and wound care. Phillip has been studying with the international academy of orthopedic medicine and looks forward to becoming certified in multiple areas in the future.
Rick Banse, PT is the Director of our Aransas Pass facility and has been employed with Humpal P.T. since 1998. He was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Rick attended The University of Texas at San Antonio and graduated from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center with a B.S. in Physical Therapy in 1991. Rick has over twenty five years of experience in various settings with twenty years in orthopedic outpatient care.Rick has attended over 375 hours of continuing education courses including: Current Concepts in Wound Care, Advanced Wound Care, Functional Lumbar Stabilization, The Pelvic Girdle, Advances on the Knee and Shoulder, “Back to Golf”, Manual Therapy of the Lumber Spine (Primary disc-related) and sacrioliac joint, and many more. Rick enjoys golf, scuba diving and travel.
Laura Picha, PT, DPT, COMT, is a Co-Director of the Calallen location. She graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX in 2007 with a B.S. in Applied Exercise Physiology. She attended PT school at The Univ. of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, and earned her Doctor of PT degree in April 2010. She received the Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist credentials from The Ola Grimsby Institute in April 2011. Since graduation, she has worked in a variety of outpatient settings, rehabilitating all types of orthopedic conditions, from post-surgical, to weekend-warrior injuries, as well as pediatric and neurological cases. She continues to expand her education by taking a variety of courses focused on orthopedic pathologies, specialized manual therapy techniques, and evidence-based practice.
Patricia Barrera, PT, DPT, LAT, is a Co-Director of the Calallen location. She was born and raised in CC, Texas. She attended Mary Carroll High School 1990-91 then graduated from Converse Judson High School in 1994. She then attended University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX where she received a Cross Country scholarship and lettered all 4 yrs and qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country Meet. As she attended UIW, she was a student Athletic Trainer and Co-Captain of the Cheerleading Squad while majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry, graduating in 1998. She then pursued her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Hardin-Simmons University and graduated in 2001.
Patty worked for 6 years as a PT then decided to return for her Doctorate Degree in PT and graduated from Hardin-Simmons in 2008. She has been a licensed Athletic Trainer since 2001 and volunteers with the San Antonio Rodeo. She is also a Certified Marathon Running Coach through the Leukemia & Lyphoma Society.
She has completed 12 full marathons and over 15 half marathons. Patty is also a CPR/AED Instructor through the American Heart Association since 2002. She is currently studying to take her Strength and Conditioning Certification Exam. She is also a New Member of the Junior League of Corpus Christi. In her spare time, Patty enjoys working out, running, spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and traveling the world!
Kristi Chapman, P.T. has worked at several of our locations over the years, including serving as Director of our Rockport facility from 2008-2014 and Co-Director of our Portland facility from 2017-2018. She moved to CC in 1996 and attended Carroll High School. She graduated from Carroll in 2000, and then attended Texas A&M CC where she earned a bachelors degree in Exercise Science in 2004. She then went on to attend PT School at Angelo State Univ. in which she graduated with a Masters Degree in PT in December 2006. She moved back to So. TX and joined the Humpal Team in January of 2007. In addition to being a PT she is a wife and mom to three amazing children. She is currently enjoying practicing at our Corpus Christi facility. She loves the field of physical therapy and continues to pursue educational opportunities that will enhance her skills in specialized techniques that will promote healing in patients and aid in effective rehabilitation.
Elizabeth Wilson, PT, DPT, is currently in the Corpus Christi location, and previously was the Director of the Rockport location. She was born and raised in Ingleside, TX and graduated from Ingleside HS. She attended Texas A&M Univ – CC where she studied Biomedical Science. She then attended the Univ of TX Health Science Center San Antonio, receiving her Doctor of PT degree in 2013. After graduating, Elizabeth returned back home to be close to family and work at Humpal PT, Elizabeth enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending time with family. She also has great interest in the orthopedic and sports medicine fields of physical therapy.
During one of her many volunteer opportunities she was able to be an intern athletic trainer with the CC IceRays in their final season in the Central Hockey League. Elizabeth would also like to continue her education to become certified in manual therapy.
Amruta Patwardhan, P.T. is a staff therapist at the Alice location. She is from Mumbai, India, and graduated with a BS degree in physiotherapy from Maharashtra Univ. of Health Sciences, Nashik, India. She earned a MS degree in physiotherapy with a specialization in Musculoskeletal conditions from Sheffield Hallam Univ., United Kingdom. While at the university, she was awarded the “Faculty of Health and Wellbeing Physiotherapy Prize” for the student with most significant academic progress. Along with a deep passion for PT, she also enjoys yoga, and is looking to integrate these two paradigms as a possible avenue for future career advancement. She also loves travel, because that is, as she states, “food for her soul”.
Bryan Alaniz, PT, DPT is a staff physical therapist at the Corpus Christi location. Bryan worked as a PT technician at Humpal prior to PT school. He grew up in Kenedy, TX and graduated from Texas A&M University – CC with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences in 2014. He then attended University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, graduating with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2018. He is very interested in orthopedic and manual physical therapy and plans on pursing a fellowship in the near future. In his spare time, Bryan enjoys working out, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Rebecca Smith, PT, DPT is a staff physical therapist at our Portland location. She was born and raised in Portland, TX and graduated from Gregory-Portland High School. She attended The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) where she studied Kinesiology with a specialization in Athletic Medicine. While there, she had the opportunity to participate in a sports medicine internship with UTSA Athletics. She then attended UT Health San Antonio where she obtained her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. While at UT Health, she received the Student Leadership and Service Award for serving as class president, and giving back to those in need within the San Antonio community. In her spare time, she enjoys working out, being outdoors, playing sports, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog.
Rachel Rebhan, PT, DPT is a new graduate joining the Corpus Christi team. She is a native of Hol- land, MI where she attended HS in a small farmtown by the name of Zeeland, MI. She attended undergrad at Hope College in Holland, MI where she was a 4 year collegiate soccer player and captain, majored in Exercise Science, frequented the Deans’ List, and fell in love with the profession of PT. She then went on to receive her Doctorate at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she gained clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics, stroke/SCI, ICU pediatrics, and acute care adult settings and graduated at the top of her class while enjoying tutoring fellow students and publishing some research. In her spare time she likes to stay active with road biking and running, laying out at the beach, reading, eating out at restaurants and breweries, and spending time with her boyfriend who is an aspiring Naval Aviator. She comes to CC eager and excited to join the team!
Brian Tajchman, PTA is the PTA and co-director/manager for the Alice location. Brian worked as a PT technician with Humpal prior to graduation. He graduated from Del Mar College in 2006 with his degree in Applied Science. He was on Del Mar’s Deans list, the National Deans List and placed in the National Honor Society. He joined Humpal PT in September 2007, and is a part of the management team at the Alice location. His hobbies are playing the acoustic guitar, photography, surfing, wood working, and automotive repair/fabrication. Brian volunteers for the Special Olympics. He would like to continue his education and become a PT.
Brandi Spears, PTA is the Physical therapist assistant in the Aransas Pass Location. She started out as a technician with Humpal Physical Therapy and decided to further her education. Brandi graduated from Del Mar College with her degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant in 2012. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family in her spare time.
Diana Valdez, PTA, is a staff physical therapist assistant at our Corpus Christi location. She was born and raised in CC, TX, and graduated from Ray HS. She then graduated from Del Mar College receiving Associates in Applied Science and became a PTA in 2000. Before becoming a PTA , she worked at Humpal PT as a technician for four years. She has worked in various settings such as Long Term Acute Care, Home Health, CORF, and Outpatient Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. She attended various continuing education courses, such as Kinesio Taping and Graston Technique. She enjoys spending time with family, camping, fishing, and hunting. She also loves watching her teenage boys play Select Baseball and High School Baseball.
Andrea Borda PTA, is a staff physical therapist assistant at our Portland location. She was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia and graduated from high school in Colombia. She attended Del Mar College where she obtained her degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA). She has been with the Humpal Physical Therapy team for 6 years, spending time at the Corpus, Calallen, and Portland clinics. She began working at Humpal as a technician, while she went to school to become a PTA. She is fluent in Spanish, which she utilizes in the clinic to help the serve the Spanish speaking population. Andrea has been living in Corpus Christi for the last 20 years, where she raised her now 24 year old son. In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, as well as spending time with her family, friends, and dogs.
Jacqueline Hernandez, PTA is a Physical Therapist Assistant of the Corpus Christi location. She was born and raised in Pearsall, Texas where she attended high school and graduated in 2010. She then attended Texas A&M- Corpus Christi to obtain her Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology in 2015. Shortly after she went back to school to become a licensed PTA while also working as a technician for Humpal Physical Therapy and graduated May 2018
Jesse Cervantes, PTA, is a staff Physical Therapist Assistant at the Corpus Christi location. He is originally from Brownsville, TX and graduated from Gladys Porter High School in 2003. He then moved to Corpus Christi and graduated from Del Mar College with his Physical Therapist Assistant degree in 2017. Jesse was a technician for 5 years at multiple Humpal Physical Therapy locations prior to becoming a PTA. Jesse is also fluent in Spanish, which he utilizes to serve the Spanish speaking population. In his free time, Jesse enjoys running, cycling, and spending time with family.
Jordan Wilkins, PTA , is a Physical Therapist Assistant working in the Calallen clinic with HPT since Feb 2018. She graduated from San Juan College in 2014. She began as a traveling therapist and worked all over Texas in Long term acute care, and skilled nursing and rehab facilities. She and her family decided to settle in Corpus Christi TX. She loves spending all of her spare time with family.
